We were first introduced to Finland's Common Labour when label owner pothOles - or Tuomo to the postman - sent a few records over last year. It's always a pleasant surprise to find fresh and unexpected wax on your doorstep, especially when something truly amazing comes along that makes you fall in love with house music all over again, as was the case here. We've been watching boutique label Common Labour ever since, so you can imagine our delight when a friendly inquiry hit our inbox a few weeks ago to see if we were up for premiering a cut of their latest missive: pothOles' Warthog.
Warthog actually did the rounds on a run of dubplates back in 2013 that was so limited even the Discogs geek massive seems to have failed to catch on and list it. It's a good thing pothOles decided to give the track the proper release it deserves as it's a timeless piece of mesmerizing, Adriatic deepness that begs to be replayed over and over. I expect to hear this all over the shop this summer season: it's made to be enjoyed with your toes in the sand, swiggin' on an icecold beer. On Common Labour's 7th release it's flanked by a pair of delightful remixes courtesy of Jori Hulkonen and Black Ops alumnus Saine. 'Touch Down' completes the package in fine style, but we'll be focussing on Saine's remix here. Pop it on below and keep reading.
Every once in a while the Finnish producer will turn his hand at remixing other people's work. I'm always amazed to see how he manages to infuse his special sonic sauce into his remixes and transform them into a different beast altogether. His take on Warthog is no exception. The blissed-out original get a proper chug-workover here, with Lauri's trademark synth lines adding a level of depth and suspense that really makes the tune stand out. Few in the game pull off heads-down, lights-out midtempo deepness like our man Saine, so we salute you, dear friend!
